You must have heard of the phrase bubbling with excitement. Well, today we tell you about this unique pond in South Goa’s Netravali area, which literally bubbles with excitement on seeing you. The Budbudyache Tale (Bubbling pond) located in the forested precincts of the Lord Gopinath temple is one of the most unusual and unsung places, which you could have on your Goa tour itinerary.
Lined with laterite stone, the bubbling pond which has been one of the key projects for the Goa government for promotion of religious and hinterland tourism, is also known for its medicinal properties.
While the exact reasons for the bubbles emanating from the bottom of the pond to the surface is not scientifically documented, folk who visit this pond say that the intensity of the bubbling spring up to the surface after aggressive clapping by onlookers. The more devout claim that the constant bubbles are a result of a miracle by the local deity Lord Gopinath, while the more reasoned argument is that steady leakage of natural gas from a pocket below the pond’s bed causes the bubble phenomenon.
Whatever the reasons might be, the pond which lies adjacent to the 14th century Lord Gopinath, is stunningly quiet and serene on most days and a quiet dip in the medicinal water here, more than makes up for the long drive. Stone steps around the pond, makes it easy to wade in. Although you may need to be a bit careful, because water snakes (most water snakes are non-poisonous) have been spotted on rare occasions.
Of course, considering that the pond has a temple in its vicinity, makes drinking and eating non vegetarian food at this spot taboo.
The ancient Lord Gopinath temple also has a beautiful idol of Lord Krishna playing the flute and is worth paying obeisance to.
