Dhavalikar was speaking after inaugurating the 24-seater toilet and bathroom complex at Shahpur-Bandora.
The project, which has been constructed on land belonging to the transport department, will also include two changing rooms.
“This project will help eradicate the practice of open defecation in Shahpur, which is a slum area. If our surroundings are clean, it will definitely help us maintain good public health. I request people not to oppose the STP, as we need to set up such projects to tackle the issue of sewage,” Dhavalikar said.
It may be recalled that locals from Undir-Bandora have been opposing the proposed STP in their vicinity and even forced the Bandora panchayat to revoke permission given to authorities concerned to construct the STP.
Local Panch Rajesh Naik said open defecation should now be stopped with the availability of the 24-seater toilet and bathroom project at Shahpur-Bandora.
Others present at the event were PWD Superintendent Engineer Padmakar Sheldekar, Assistant Director of Transport Gurudas Narvekar, Executive Engineer Dilip Dhavalikar and others
