Inaugural function
The Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim celebrated its annual inaugural function on July 14 with a Eucharistic celebration by Rev. Dr. Socorro Mendes, the administrator of the college.
The theme was ‘Lord, Bless this Academic Year and Help us to Enlighten Society and Create Communion through Our Family Values’.
The day consisted of a cultural programme including a welcome song, a fusion dance and an English play titled ‘Three words in search of a speaker.’
A pledge was taken by the teaching, non-teaching staff, the newly elected students’ council and the students of the Purity cell, vowing their commitment and dedication to their duties, while meritorious students of the academic year 2014-15 as well as students who had 100 per cent attendance were felicitated. In his address, the principal, Rev Dr. Simão R. Diniz encouraged the students to become responsible citizens and agents of change.
Boat ride
The TYBA literature students of Carmel College of Arts, Commerce and Science for Women, Nuvem went on a ferry ride along the Zuari river recently accompanied by their English and history professors, Brian Mendonça and Leila Ribeiro, respectively.
The outing was inspired by the poem Boat-ride along the Ganga by Keki Daruwalla which is part of the students' Indian Writing in English course this semester. Egged on by the cool breeze and the fresh surroundings, the group sang some famous Konkani riverside songs like Hanv Saiba Poltodi Veta, Vodekara, etc, while Mendonca recited his poem Kali Gandak written on the Gandak river near Patna.
Teacher's training
St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa conducted an in-service training programme for its newly appointed faculty recently where principal, Dr. (Fr.) Walter de Sa motivated the teachers while stressing on the nobility and the missionary character of the teaching profession. Dr. Bosco Lawrence in the second session spoke of the importance of research especially in the institutions of higher learning, while Sandra Fernandes, Department of Computer Science provided a detailed demonstration of Moodle-based administration of quizzes, assignments and academic chat sessions to make learning more interactive and interesting. Vice-Principal, Dr. Blanche Mascarenhas made a detailed exposition of examination related matters and urged the faculty to give due importance to examination work, setting up of question papers and assessment.
