Bollywood rises to Filmfare Awards

14 January witnessed the live ceremony of Bollywood's Oscars, the Filmfare Awards. As the ceremony flowed on with nominations, the acts and gigs and proud winners, twitter responded giving the social media surfers live coverage of the event. The Awards trace their histroy back to 1954. The Clares was the original name of the award ceremony, named after movie critic Clare Mendonca. Readers of Filmfare magazine were polled to decide the winners, and over 20,000 readers spread throughout India participated in the polls; trophies were given to winners of the popular vote. By 1990, the popularity of the awards soard as cable television made it possible for people to watch the live ceremony.As of 2016, there are a total of 31 Awards given for various categories. Rani Mukharji and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Black holds the record so far for the most number of Filmfare Awards gained by a film. It has a total of 11 Awards to its credit.
