Between The Lines, the reader's club at Gallery Gitanjali will be hosting a reading and a presentation of Meena Kandasamy's The Gypsy Goddess on November 11, 6 pm.

‘The Gypsy Goddess’ by Meena Kandasamy is a novel based on Tamil Nadu's worst ever Dalit massacre that took place on 25 December 1968. It tells the tale of rural Nagapattinam where the landlords force the peasants, whose bellies are never quelled of hunger, to work for a pittance. It's little wonder that communist ideas of a classless society manage to light a spark of defiance in the peasants. But the price that one village has to pay for standing by the Red flag is unprecedented.

Seen through many eyes, the novel is unconventional and almost documentary in its narration. The novel recounts with brutal honesty how society, the government and the judiciary have collectively failed the Dalits. Archana Nagvekar will present the novel.
