The legacy of the tiatr in Goa is unmistakable. For many a tiatr lovers, the theatre art form and its leading lights have entertained, regaled and even moved them to tears across generations.
Every month, the Tiatr Academy of Goa organises ‘Somplolea Tiatristancho Ugddas’, a special programme to remember late tiatr artistes, who were born in the particular month and their contribution in the field of tiatr. This programme will be held on April 15. The event will also offer a tribute to Goan tiatr great Sebastiao Vitorin Alvares also know as Champion Alvares being his birth centenary.
Other artistes who will be remembered are player writer, director and singer Jacinto Vas; one of the great character artistes and singer AS Conception; script writer, director, lyricist and singer Nelson Afonso; actor and singer Thomas Coogan. Others who will be celebrated are writer ,director, lyricist, and singer William De Curtorim; musician Fidelis Fernandes; writer ,director,lyricist and an excellent singer Caetano Francisco de Souza also known as Souza Boy and a fine composer and singer with a melodious voice Luciano Dias.
