However, the exact motive behind the incident has not been known. rSpeaking to The Goan, a resident said a local youth was beaten by around four members of the sect. r“He has been hospitalised and the people are demanding that the accused be brought for questioning,” the resident told The Goan. rThe resident said all the members of the sect had disappeared after the incident and two members, including their cook, was present and some women and children were present in a separate room of the house. rSoon after the news spread that a local had been assaulted, some 100 people including women rushed to the house and demanded the presence of the four accused, failing which they threatened to prevent the cook and some women and children from leaving the house. The irate mob also prevented the police from evacuating the sect members. rA police official said that police had requisitioned IRB police to evacuate the members of the sect, who were virtually confined to their house. rAnother resident, Shyam Naik, said he had informed the sarpanch on many occasions to verify the identity of those residents, but said nothing had been done. “Nobody knows their identity. I had even informed the Verna police inspector but nothing worked out,” said Shyam. rDespite efforts, PI Uday Parab did not respond to calls, while Mormuago DySP Lawrence D’Souza and other officials were camping at the site.
