With the arrival of December, Christmas spirit is sweeping the world. We are eagerly looking forward to all things festive-the decorations, food, and meeting with friends and family. But in today’s tech-savvy world, there’s one more thing that loved and appreciated across the globe: the Google doodle!
Yes. The world’s most popular search-engine has something special in its store this Christmas season. In fact, this season’s doodle has more to it than meets the eye. When you open Google, you see a tiny feature on the screen offering you to ‘design an elf all by yourself.’ But when you click on it, you find that you have entered Santa’s village, and there are a host of interesting games to play including the traditional ‘Santa tracker’.
Apart from providing good entertainment, the little games also offer you a chance to learn coding, explore Christmas traditions in different parts of the world, and also know more about various charity organisations that are partnering with Google to observe ‘joy of giving’. That said, the hallmark of this group of little doodles is coding.
Most of the games in the new doodle invite the user to key in a specific code to make images on screen do various things, and then urge the users to go deeper and learn more about code behind the doodle. One could say that through this doodle, Google is trying to get us all interested in coding. With the way technology is progressing at the moment, there is no surprise if coding becomes a basic skill everyone should know, just like the alphabets.
