Our government seemsto believe that the poor need cell-phones more than they need food, shelter andother basic amenities. An obvious sop for the 2014 general elections, thecentre is finalising the `7,000 crore Har Hath Mein Phone scheme which promisesa mobile phone each for 60 lakh BPL families. The connected hungry will get 200minutes of free local talk time as well. But will cell-phones take care of aquarter of the world’s hungry poor who live in India? Or will they rid us ofthe shame of shockingly high malnutrition-related child deaths?
Don’t have bread, eat mobile!
