Emma Watson’s new movie Beauty and the Beast has been making the headlines for its glamorous dresses and fantastical screenplay. In a recent interview, Emma commented how she has a lot of respect for her Beauty and the Beast character and yet she doesn’t feel the same about ALL Disney princesses.
Emma, who will be playing Belle in the upcoming remake revealed that she passed on playing Cinderella in the 2015 live-action retelling of the Disney animated classic! The 26-year-old explained that she felt the character of Belle connected much more to her than Cinderella’s “ who was then played by Lily James in the remake. Emma also commented how she finds Belle’s personality of being a beautiful bookworm to be a much better role model. She says, “When they offered me Belle, I just felt the character resonated with me so much more than Cinderella did… [Belle] remains curious, compassionate and open-minded. Belle could definitely be a good role model.”
Watson says that she also felt that Belle was a more empowering princess because Belle would never compromise her integrity and freedom, a quality which she greatly admires. We believe that Emma’s determination to portray a strong willed character has paid off and we can’t wait to see how the movie turns out when it hits theaters on March 17.
