Second edition of 'fashion on the beach' in Oct

If fashion is what you live and breathe, if keeping up with the latest styles is what gets you going, and if you just couldn't get enough of the India Beach Fashion Week held earlier this year - block your dates.
The second edition of the Gionee India Beach Fashion Week is all set to return to the shores of Goa from October 29 to 31 this year. The designers set to enthrall the crowds are Anjali and Arjun Kapoor, Ken Ferns, Babita Malkani, Mapenxars by Riddhi & Siddhi, Harsh Harsh, Mukti Tibrewal, Avesh Dadlani, Prateek Chauhan and Rachna Sansad College of Design.
Three Goan models- Erika, Dalton and Siddarth will walk the ramp as part of the fashion week, while Sapna Douradoi has been roped in for handling the hair and make up.
“This time around the theme is festive and we will be focusing on resort weddings with Goa being a favorite wedding destination,” states celebrated designer James Ferreira, at the calendar shoot of the event. Ferreira is the chief stylist for the event. “One of the biggest misconceptions that people have is that resort wear equals beach. This is not true. Resort wear can include the Jaisalmer desserts or the Himalayas, wherever you holiday in a resort.”
The calendar shoot looks at a more casual take on weddings. “ We had a mehndi shoot by the beach this morning. Another shoot that we will be doing focuses on the wedding bed done up with an Indian element to it. In fact, the bed is one of the biggest celebrations of the wedding. The whole shoot centres around the beauty and sensuality of the celebration. It is not about how much money you spend but about the beginning of a beautiful new relationship.”
Ferreira added that this time around they will go more business oriented and are looking for more young designers. They are also seeking to get more local people involved in this gala event.
Pallav Ojha, co founder of the event, who did his schooling in Goa and wants to give back to it, also emphasised on this point. “ We are looking to get a lot of local designers involved in this event. We are also inviting a lot of local boutiques to come and set up pop up stores during the fashion week. After all this cannot be a one way thing- we can't just have others coming and showcasing their works, locals too must get a platform to display their talent,” he says.
The organisers slowly hope to make this event international. “ We will have two editions each year and in the coming months will have one edition in Goa, and one will be international,” says Amyn Manji, co founder .
While Ferreira concludes, “We have to buck up our hospitality options and the challenge is to compete with Bangkok and Sri Lanka. The local perception must change, as tourism is a major source of revenue and the fashion week is important in this respect as it will bring more people in.”
