In this collection that was launched recently at the World Trade Centre, Mumbai, Deviprasad Rao captured most of the central and northern cities of Portugal such as Lisbon, Sintra, Obidos, Porto, Braga, Coimbra, Guimraes, Peniche, Leiria and few others. Collectively, the exhibition depicts and characterises historical heritage of Portugal juxtapositioned against modern times. Elements of each of these nuances etched against white spaces of the canvas, lines and dots criss-crossing in rectangles and triangles, busy and fluid at the same time.
Inspired by Antonio Gaudi, Deviprasad shares being drawn to Portugal's "mix of decadent, medieval, pre-modern, modern and contemporary architecture."
It was presented by the Consul General of Portugal in Goa, Rui Carvalho Baceira -- who asserted that it is his endeavour to promote intercultural relations between Portugal and India through art, culture, music and makes a superb example of this initiative -- the event was hosted by World Trade Centre, Mumbai, which saw a packed house of art and culture enthusiasts from Mumbai and Goa.
