Chetna Entertainment and BLive Production and Music together will be making a trilingual Indo-Russian film based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet story with actors from Goa and Russia in Konkani, Hindi and Russian language. “We are the first to work on such a concept, of making a film in three languages with subtitles in English and this is going to be a Bollywood style, big budget movie,” claimed Avadh Sharma of Chetna Entertainment, a Jaipur-based production house.
Announcing the launch of this film that’s going to be shot in Goa, Jaipur and Russia, Sharma hoped that the film will revive the historical bonds of friendship that always existed between India and Russia. Legendary Indian actor Raj Kapoor was popular in Russia and today Goa is popular in Russia and our film will be showing the rich culture of Goa, wiping out its notorious drug image, states Sharma.
“The popular ‘Romeo and Juliet’ will be adapted with a Goan Romeo and an Indo-Russian Juliet showcasing conflict between two families and cultures. It will be an aesthetically pleasing and content driven masterpiece,” says Sharma who will be financing the project.
The film is written by Alexander Sukhochev, a Russian living in Goa for the past six years who also penned ‘The Goa Syndrome’ and directed by Aziz Zee who has been in Goa for the past eight years and is also well-versed with local culture.
“We want to bring the world together with cinema, which is a powerful medium to give a message,” maintains Aziz.
The music is composed by Shiddhart Kashyap and DJ Sheizwood and will be a blend of Konkani, Russian and Hindi. Smita Gondkar who has acted in many Marathi movies and Amit Mehra who has played Shiva in the television serial Mahabali Hanuman and was Mr Universe 2018-19 will be playing important roles in the film. Konkani writer Jose Lorenco has helped with the Konkani dialogues.
The makers hope to release the film before the International Film Festival of India 2020.
