Govt extends financial aid to Sanjivani factory till September

PANAJI

In a major relief to sugarcane farmers in the State, the Government has extended the scheme for providing grant-in-aid to the Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd (Sugar factory) till September end.

However, this could be the last financial support provided to the factory.

In a notification issued, Director Agriculture Sandeep Fol Desai said that the government has decided to extend the financial benefit to the factory till September 30 or until the employees take voluntary retirement.

The factory has got around 170 employees including 99 regular staff. The factory has stopped production since 2019 and since then the State government has been providing financial support.

Sources informed that this could be the last financial benefit extended to the factory as the government is in no position to continue the same.

“Financial benefit has been provided to the factory since 2020. We had asked the staff to opt for voluntary retirement. Since its the festival time, we decided to extend the benefit till September end,” sources said.
