The ocean inspires me with knowledge of the Bhagwad Gita in a very different way. In fact when I am near the ocean, creativity is at its peak. I believe that I was meant to come closer to the ocean,”
- Hema Myer Sood
It all began with a dream. Preparing to answer her final year B Com exams, Hema Myer Sood, who was studying in Bangalore, had made up her mind that following this she would go abroad to pursue a career in business. But all that changed on the night of Maha Shivratri when she had an unusual dream. “I was all ready to leave. I had my clothes all picked out and all. But then my guru ri Sathya Sai Baba appeared to me in the dream and told me that I would not be allowed to go abroad. Instead, he said that my future lay in writing books dedicated to him,” reveals Sood, adding that her decision to listen to the advice was almost instantaneous and she had no regrets about abandoning her business plans.
“My parents thought it was a temporary phase and my uncles and aunts began insisting that no one would marry me,” she says with a chuckle. “When I did marry, my in laws too thought that I would start pursuing a business career again. But when they saw that this was not to be the case, they didn't pressurize me.”
Her first book The Eternal Ocean of Brahma came out in 1994 and it was in 2013 that she began working on the Karmic City Trilogy. The first book in this series was The City of Lord Brahma. And her second book City of Lord Vishnu is all set to be released at the Goa Arts and Literary Festival on December 13. “While in the first book I mostly focused on introducing each character, the second book delves deeper into the different aspects of karma. I have explored the concept of karmic bank too. When a person is born, his attitude in life is influenced by his experiences and thoughts of his previous life. And it is only after he learns from these karmic lessons that he can alter the course of his destiny. Else he will stagnate in the same place,” she explains, adding that with each book, the readers will reach a higher level of consciousness. Sood, adds that the ocean inspires her a lot in her musings and writings. “The ocean inspires me with knowledge of the Bhagwad Gita in a very different way. In fact when I am near the ocean, creativity is at its peak. I believe that I was meant to come closer to the ocean,” says Sood, referring to her settling down in Goa after marriage. Sood, adds that the ocean also helps cleanse her aura and remove negative thoughts. “This true for all the five elements of nature,” she explains. “This is why when you are stressed, you take a walk in the park and receive vibrations which helps to calm you.”
Sood also adds that she was fortunate to be writing something like this which has made her what she is today. “I believe everyone is destined to do a dharma and perform a special task in life and when we do this it can bring you inner happiness.”
