He has given us hit films like Rustom and Airlift in the recent past which have made us sit up and think, and tickled us pink with his antics in Housefull 3. And having set the bar so high, the audience has come to expect stellar performances from this man all the time. And while Jolly LLB 2 does get across it's message well and clear, somehow there is something amiss.
Jagdishwar Mishra aka Jolly (Akshay Kumar) is lawyer-in-the-making. Up til now he has slogged as an assistant to noted lawyer Rizvi with his work restricted to that of being a personal secretary. While he doesn't shy away from engaging in shady deals to make some money on the side, Jolly is yearning to get to work on a real case. When Hina Siddiqui relentlessly pursues his boss to take up her case but to no avail, Jolly sees his opportunity. He lies to her that her case has been accepted and uses the money she provides to start his own office. But little does he know that he has waded into very dark waters. When tragedy befalls, Jolly is forced to take a closer look at his life and try and right his ways. But with little court experience, a history of shady dealings and with law enforcers trying to bring him down can he do enough to win the case?
Akshay does a good job of portraying a shrewd lawyer who is always up for making a quick buck and is able supported by Huma as his wife Pushpa Pandey although her part could have been extended a lot more. In fact if you think about it, given how little she has to do, the film could very well have done without her. But for a film that has been marked as a black comedy film, there is nothing funny to it. Saurabh Shukla who plays Justice Sunderlal Tripathi tries hard. He does some funky dance moves, waters his beloved plant and brings out all his gavels in self defense. But rather than making people laugh, these scenes are met with eye rolls instead. And apart from the interrogation scene where Akshay discusses predicting the future (Salman Khan's bachelor status finding reference in films again), he isn't funny either. The film drags on in the first part especially and could have done with a lot of tightening. The songs are nothing memorable either. But the need to abstain from greed and be righteous comes out loud and clear.

Majorly shot in Lucknow, the film was shot in a 30-day straight schedule.
The song ‘Bawra Mann’ was originally made for Akshay’s 2015 comedy ‘Singh Is Bling’ but was eventually used in ‘Jolly LLB 2′.
The movie suffered 4 cuts from the Censor Board for showing the judiciary in a bad light.
Akshay Kumar admitted that he didn't prepare much for this role as being from North India, his dialect was quite like the people of UP. Also he added, Arshad Warsi had already created an image of the character.
The He’s a Jolly Good Fellow inspired track was an idea that Akshay came up with after listening to his daughter humming it. The song was shot in a day in Mumbai.
A Jaipur court has ordered the actor to show up in court over the poor"representation of lawyers" in the film terming it as "nothing but an attempt to portray the Indian Legal Profession and Judicial System as a laughing stock to the society at large."
Popular footwear brand Bata also reportedly sent a legal notice to the makers of the film for projecting their company in bad light.
