It’s that time of the year when Goans, cutting across religious lines, pack their bags to head to the pilgrim centre of Vailankani in the country’s southernmost state, Tamil Nadu. Konkani stage artists will be no exception once again as they too seemed to have geared up for their annual pilgrimage as to stage their annual Konkani musical show at Vailankani.
Director of ‘Valanka & Vanesteve Productions’, Inacio Dias, who has been holding the Konkani musical evening at Vailankani for the last 13 years, is all set to host the show this year again.
Inacio shares that the idea of holding the Konkani musical show in Tamil Nadu originated in his mind when he saw musical programs in other languages staged at the pilgrim centre during the novenas. “I have been a regular visitor to Vailankani for over two decades now. Since Goan pilgrims camp at Vailankani days before the commencement of the novenas, I decided to host the show on the eve of the Maddi,” maintains Inacio. As usual, Inacio has roped in a group of popular Konkani stage artists and musicians, who will perform at Vailankani. “This time Jr Reagan, Pascoal, Caji, Menin Mario, Tony de Ribandar, Ofelia, Antonette de Maina, Clifa, Seby, Francisco and Fancia will accompany me along with the comedians, Pitush, Cedrick, Dorety, Ashley, and Bladwin. The group of musicians includes Seby, Anthony, Jaison, Miles, Jalin and Risban,” he informs.
