Grand Theft Auto series
Set in the fictional Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas and considered the best third person shooter game by many all over the world, the Grand Theft Auto series have received perfect scores or near perfect scores by various video game magazines and have sold over 200 million copies worldwide. Owing to its violent content, the videogame has received its fair share of controversy. It has also featured the voices of many celebrities such as James Woods, Ray Lliota and Samuel Jackson. With its engaging story lines and pure shock value this video game is a must-have for all games.
WWE 2k series
With the advent of the Attitude Era, wrestling, in particular WWE, became huge in the late 1990s. Every teenage kid was doing impressions of The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin or Shawn Michaels. The WWE 2k series is still popular among kids of this generation with each of the 19 games contributing to its growing fan base. Every element of the WWE universe ranging from a ‘Table and Chair’ match to a ‘Hell in a Cell’ match is present in the series. The series has sold over 60 million copies worldwide.
Need For Speed
Who does not like cars and speed? Electronic Arts capitalized on the ‘need for speed’ and teamed up with American automotive magazine Road & Track to create a racing game where the cars had behavior and sounds almost identical to that of real cars. They released the first game in the series in 1994. 22 years, 22 games and (with the 23rd on its way) a movie later, this game still remains the king of racing video game series.
Assasins’s Creed
Little did Vladimir Bartol know that one of his books entitled Alamut would serve as the genesis for one of the most popular action adventure games of all time. The game, created by Ubisoft is set in a fictional history of real world events and follows the centuries old struggle between The Assasins who desire peace through free will and The Templars who desire peace through control. This videogame has also been adapted into a movie starring Michael Fassbender which will release on 21 December 2016.
Guitar Hero
Rock ‘n’ Roll has always been synonymous with testosterone and energy for decades. Published by RedOctane and Harmonix, and distributed by Activision, the Guitar Hero franchise was a primary brand during the emergence of the popularity of rhythm games as a cultural phenomenon in North America with its first game in the series being considered by several journalists as one of the most influential games of the first decade of the 21st century. With bands such as Metallica and Megadeth contributing to its soundtrack, this game allows players to press buttons on a dummy guitar corresponding to a sequence of notes displayed on a screen.
