Firstly what can we expect for your upcoming show here in Goa?
I’m coming back after 7 years so I'm really looking forward to performing for Goa so you can expect me to dish out the best of the best and extremely high on interactivity.
You've mentioned previously that what helps you out with your material is that you observe things that people do but don't bother pondering on. Could you give us an example?
One of my favorite examples is “When you call someone and there seems to be a bad connection and you ask “Can you hear me?”…They somehow always reply “No I cant”…How the hell can you reply if you cant hear me. And it gets worse because when you say “Ok I will call you back”…They say “ OK”.
From when you started out to present day stand up comedy . What are some observations that you have made with regards to what has changed?
Stand up Comedy has evolved beautifully in the last 5-6 years because not only has the world become full of people who make others laugh but also people who laugh without hesitation. It is now officially a career option and everyone is sitting up to stand up comedians because most of us are also using this tool to throw light on and influence social changes.
A lot of people say that Indians are a sensitive lot especially when it comes to people making fun of them. What is your take on this?
I think Indians have a great sense of humor and India is full of good comedy all round. Yes, there are people all over the world who are sensitive towards being made fun of but that is something that can never change therefore I do make it a point to not “OFFEND” by audience but to “BEFRIEND” them.
How do you think that such narrow mindedness should be dealt with?
If you are happily laughing at others but have a problem when there is something thrown your way then there is a problem, period. The concept of stand up comedy is about creating an honest space where both the comic can say what he is thinking and the audience will certainly enjoy more if they have an open mind towards what’s going on. I wouldn’t call it narrow mindedness but its their choice and perspective which I respect but do not indulge in.
What are some of the things and people right now that amuse you and why?
I get easily amused and even more easily distracted but having moved to Mumbai from Dubai.The change in lifestyle and attitudes is surely fun. I’m loving the slangs and how much pride people take in explaining directions.
Have you ever used your comic charm to get you out of a sticky situation?
On a daily basis, because being a full time comic means that I will find my self in a sticky situation every 20 minutes and so far my wit has always made sure that the damage is less and contained in record time. As my idol Jim Carrey says “ As comics we are blessed to be doing something that makes people present their best selves to us wherever we go.”
What are some upcoming projects that you are currently working on?
I have my fingers crossed as I am casting for a big Bollywood project and even in talks with TV channels. So my plans of “World Domination” are on track, one joke at a time.
