Holy Spirit Institute, Margao from Goa edged past Sikkim side 1-0 to register their second straight victory in the ongoing U-14 Sub-Junior Boys Subroto Cup International Football tournament at Dr Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi, on Saturday.

Holy Spirit started with an attacking intent and kept their opponents under pressure but missed to score early on. Richard's promising shot was saved by the Sikkim goalkeeper in the 13th minute. The Sikkim side counter attacked but defender Felixson thwarted the challenge for a corner.

It was expected to be a high voltage encounter and in the 18th minute, Nathan came up with a solo move in the rival territory only to see his effort blocked by the rival goalkeeper. Finally, Holy Spirit found the back of the net in the 21st minute when Nathan’s overhead pass was collected by Saideep Pomburphekar on the left flank and the latter finished with a deft placement.

In the second session, Holy Spirit played to a plan and maintained ball possession which helped them take charge in the midfield.

Few minutes later, Nathan's shot from the right flank missed the crossbar. The very next minute, a superb save by Frevino maintained Goa's lead.

Goa attacked till the last minute by keeping the ball possession. Harsh Patre and Arnold Oliveira's long distance attempts went wide and over the crossbar. Goa’s keeper Frevino Fernandes had an exceptional day under the sticks.

Goa will next lock horns with West Bengal on September 19 at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi at 2.30 p.m.
