The ongoing art exhibition of drawings and paintings curated by Swetlana Cardoso at House no 386, Amblimoll, Guirdolim Chandor showcases works of artists like Shripad Gurav, Manjunath Naik and Jyoti Mehta. The show is open for public till July 31 from 11 am to 7 pm.
One of the contemporary emerging artists of today, Shripad Gurav works in a figurative style, indulging into the past, present and future. His figures are those of the Goan life, rich in colour and holding symptomatic effects - the expressions of man’s aspirations and motives. He studies and paints images, going back and forth, forming relationships along the way. Etchings are his most preferred medium, while he also paints in acrylic, mixed media and oils. A fine art graduate from the Goa College of Art, Shripad did his masters from S N School of Fine Art, Hyderabad and has participated in several exhibitions in India and abroad.
For Jyoti Mehta, art is a powerful and beautiful medium to connect with the world. “Art has its own freedom of expression. So, we as artists are free to share and express our thoughts”, shares Jyoti. Her woman series projects the feelings and emotions of women - how their choices change as they grow up and the different emotional qualities they possess in every relationship. Finding inspiration in Lord Ganesha she creates stories around him. A self-taught artist Jyoti was interested in drawing and painting since her childhood. Continuing experimenting and painting as she grew up she pursued her hobby under the tutelage of artist Wilson D’Souza and Sadguru Chedvankar.
In this particular series of artwork, Manjunaath Naik is inspired about love, life, sex and x-factor. “My works are about undefined and defined forms in their very intimate space of time, where they merge and submerge in one another marking their territory of intimate love,” admits the artist. Giving words to his thoughts Manjunath has penned a poem on one of his painting - Green sky, blue earth and pink in between. He writes -
Bought fresh cherries for you, fertilized in heaven of love and purity where sky sings songs of earth,
And earth dances in the blue sky with the million white stars came from the sacred wand of magic,
To make the world cum intensely with pleasure and see stars in the bright light.
Manjunath’s works are about life and fantasies. His major area of work lies in those expressing love in different moods. “When we are in love, we do all crazy stuff and this world becomes an alien place for us and we dwell in the universe of love… We see all bright colours around,” observes the artist whose works have been exhibited at several locations in India and abroad.
