Honest Tiatr Review
Concept
Revenge is a form of expressing ones displeasure at the injustice meted out to a person. But to what extent can a person go to seek revenge? Taking revenge is surely part of human nature; but then the means employed should be humanly possible. Can a candidate for the elections lose only because he got married to a girl from the orphanage which should have been his strength to win? Can a crime committed go undetected and an innocent be punished without proper evidence? Seek answers in Roma’s maiden directorial venture Panvdde naslole ghor.
Script
The tiatr script is simple and heart touching, however the sequences of the plot unfold with unnatural turn of events. The graph of the characters are well built but appear illogical. There is a good dose of comedy that is partly interwoven with the plot. Roma a name of authority in the field of acting however needs to get her act of scriptwriting sharper giving justification to the progression of characters and making them relevant to the realistic society.
Acting
The tiatr rises high due to the contribution of the artistes in the field of acting that can be rated as par excellance. Roma leads by example. Antonette de Maina known for her glamorous appearances on stage does not let the audience down and carries the expectations of the artistes on her shoulders with aplomb! Pascoal Rodrigues gives another clinical performance. Franky excels as the election candidate but does not have much to do later. Saby de Divar and Lawry Travaso are magnificient in their cameo roles.
Music
The tiatr band music is impressive, pleasing and soothing to the ears. There are good solos by Jr Reagan, Saby de Divar, Pascoal Rodrigues, Roma, Rioma and Peter de Arambol. Lawry punches a power packed solo on the massages done in the Barbers saloon. However it was the solo of Fr Ashliff Correia, reminiscing the style of the late Selvy that was the pick of the day. There are also meaningful duo songs sung by Saby de Divar and Lawry Travasso and another by Antonette de Maina and Roma. However there are no variety interactive songs in the form of trio and duets.
Comedy
The comedy quotient is decent clean and in good taste. Comedian Sally once again proves why he is regarded as the best comedian of the present day. Comedian David, the relatively new comedian on the horizon reminds the audience of the late comedian Selvy with his onstage mannerisms movements and facial expressions. Comedian Richard has given up entering the stage with his peculiar ‘shorts’ citing that tiatrists are foul mouthing his name because of this, but old habbits die hard and he however resorts to displaying his ‘chedd’ddul’ which could have been avoided.
Backstage
The Writer’s vision was brought up on stage with great technical background. The light effects were impressive. The background musical score was decent and satiating. The stage sets by Anthony Ambajim was impressive.
Direction
All artistes did a good natural job and the new Director needs to be commended for this. There was good coordination of the backstage team with the artistes.
Reviewers take
Tiatr is a tiatr because of the variety songs which was a hallmark of the tiatrs staged in yesteryears. Variety songs like interactive duets trios quartets and quintets are the need of the format to make tiatr a vibrant form of the glorious past. New Directors bring in a hope for the betterment of tiatrs. Our audience should support the work of new directors so that new blood of ideas comes on stage. A good tiatr recommended to watch.
