Patriotic songs for the nation

Ravindra Bhavan Baina, organised a patriotic solo singing competition for the high school students of Mormugao Taluka as part of the Independent day celebrations.


Each participant from schools across Mormugao Taluka performed patriotic songs in Hindi , Konkani and Marathi. A total of 18 schools participated in the event out of 36 schools across Mormugao. The Chief guest for the opening of the event was Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar and the Chief guest of the closing ceremony was Ravindra Bhavan, Baina chairman Sanjay Satardekar.
Ajay Naik , renowned music composer from Goa and Prakash Dessai ,professor of Goa Music College were the judges for the event.
1st prize of RS 3000 plus certificate and trophy was won by Chinmayee Parab of Kendriya Vidyalaya 1. The second prize of RS 2500 plus trophy and certificate was won by Raksha S Shetty of Vidya Mandir School. The third prize of RS 2000 plus trophy and certificate was won by Master Azharuddin Hadiginal of Anjuman Himayatul Islam High School.
Besides two consolation prizes of RS 1000 along with certificates were awarded to Aditi Patkar of Deepvihar school and Debali Nandy of Naval Children Public school. All the participants were given participation certificates.
"The program of solo patriotic songs competition was a great success despite the short notice given to schools. Henceforth, I announce that this programme will be held every year," said Sanjay while addressing the audience at the event.
The judge Prakash Desai encouraged the students to prioritise music in their lives and nurture their talents. He also advised them to incorporate greater expressions in their performances to add to their overall presentation. "The performance were brilliant," added Prakash.
The programme was compered by theatre artist and council member Ravindra Bhavan ,Pravesh Amonkar.

The event was organised without alcohol and commercialization. Porvorim MLA and Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte attended the festival.Speaking on the occasion, Socorro Parish Priest Fr Santana Carvalho said this unique feast is being celebrated by all the communities of Socorro. "This festival brings together all sections of Socorro village and provide an opportunity for locals to showcase their talents.
