On Saturday, all roads lead to this magical hillock in Arpora village, wedged between Baga and Anjuna. Arpora’s Saturday Night Market offers more square inch of a diverse, colourful and rejuvenating experience than perhaps any other destination in the state. And the market does it with pizzazz.
Jugglers, fire-eaters, live musicians, DJs, body artistes, fashion boutiques, jewellery and trinket sellers, niche leather venders and an unbelievable array of food stalls, right from a wood-fired pizza to sushi to the popular Goan chicken xacuti to a chocolate fountain are what makes up the market. The popular market has become the address to be in, if you are in North Goa, or perhaps any part of Goa, on Saturday night.
On any given Saturday night, you’d find bands with Indian or foreign musicians belting out choicest folk, reggae, blues, rock, EDM and even tribal music. And while there’s just so much to do, don’t be surprised if you find yourself haggling with a vendor over a fine leather sandal or a beaded earring, with a celebrity alongside doing the exact same thing.
The Saturday Night Market is one of the most hip, cosmopolitan places in Goa and has taken over the mantle of the famous Anjuna flea market as far as offering a grunge experience of a lifetime to visitors is concerned.
Unlike many other popular hang outs, the one thing you will not have to worry about, when you are driving to the Saturday Night Market is the ample and secure parking space alongside the venue which is spread over three levels of the hillock. But you still may have to navigate through the heavy traffic to get here once this hillock starts buzzing.
The Saturday night market is almost equidistant from Calangute and Baga and a 10 minute bike ride from Anjuna beach.
