It’s quite common and rather tempting simply to take everything and stuff it in the closet, but over time, all that does is create more hidden chaos. Over time the mere thought of opening the closet is terrifying; the fear of all the clothes tumbling down on the floor to create a pool that looks and feels intimidating. Thus starts the vicious cycle of easy temptation! It isn’t exactly rocket science to deal with the everyday mess. A few simple hacks and an easy routine will have you sorted.
Declutter
First things first, clear the clutter. Rid yourself of the clothes you no longer wear, or wouldn’t take a second look at. You can always donate them to clear your conscious. Not to mention the bright side, you now have added place for new stuff!
Segregate
Keep your formals and informal separate. Especially clothes meant for special occasions. Ladies, make sure your party wear isn’t on the same shelf as your regulars. You don’t want to rummage through sequins and work kurtas, sarees or formal dresses to look for college or office wear. Similarly, men wouldn’t want to crumple a crisply ironed full sleeved shirt while looking for a pair of track pants.
Increase your wardrobe space
You might not need to call the carpenter and pay him big bucks to make another wardrobe if you just use some hooks. Put up some hooks on the inside of your cupboard and hang your stoles, caps, sling bags and ties.
Sort seasonal clothes
To save more space, take out the seasonal clothes from your cupboard and keep them in a bag or a box. Put the bag or the box on a loft or under your bed. Rainy day jackets, rainy day footwear, umbrellas etc. can all be stacked away for most of the year.
Organize shoes
You can organise your shoes rather than keeping them in a pile in your cupboard. Take a big carton, make columns using paperboard or thermocol and you are good to go. This would also save your wardrobe from any foul smell.
Saree Storage
For all you ladies out there, you could arrange your sarees along with their matching blouses and petticoats on a hanger given that sarees are a little complex, three pieces and everything. You could also opt for saree bags to keep these delicates safe.
Dupattas
Every Indian girl’s wardrobe is bound to have salwar suits. Use shower curtain rings for the dupattas. Loop your dupattas through the rings and use a hanger to suspend them. You can also buy a scarf holder and use it the same way. Locate your dupattas faster, paving the way for some mix and match maybe. Also, they’d be crumple and wrinkle free.
Chain and S-hook
Vertical space is the name of the game. Get an S-hook and hang it on the rod. Now attach a chain to the other end of the S-hook. Use the chains to hang more hangers instead of just one. This way you manage to get more space in a small cupboard.
Drawer organizers
Instead of rifling through drawers to find socks, undergarments, and handkerchiefs use old shoe boxes as drawer organisers and separate the lot for easy access. You can also save a lot of time by keeping matching sock pairs together by tying the pair in a know, thus assuring you don’t waste time looking for the other piece in a pair.
If nothing works!
Even if your closet stays chaotic, you can still simplify your morning routine by mounting a hook outside your cupboard and using it to hang up whatever outfit you select the night before.
