Emma Stone
As a child, Emma Stone once auditioned for the beloved '90s sketch-comedy ensemble show All That and didn't get the part. "I didn't know that you had to have characters. I thought they were going to give us sketches and, five minutes before I went in the room, they said, 'You need to have characters.' So I said, 'Okay.' And then I made up a couple of characters. One was a cheerleader that couldn't remember what she was spelling. There was another one that was actually pretty nuts ” it was a babysitter that was possessed," she said, before launching into an exorcist impression in the middle of reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears. "I did not get that. It's shocking, right?"
Eddie Redmayne
The actor who played the role of Newt Scamander in J K Rowling's recent blockbuster Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them revealed recently that he previously auditioned for the role of young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. “I actually auditioned to play Tom Riddle when I was back at university. I properly failed and didn't get a call back. Over the years, I always hoped I might be cast as a member of the Weasley family, but unfortunately not,” he said.
Scarlett Johansson
Anne Hathaway won accolades for her role as Fantine in Les Misérables but not many know that
Scarlett Johansson also auditioned for the role. " sang my little heart out," she said. However there was one issue. "I auditioned with laryngitis," she revealed. "I did everything I could to, like, not have laryngitis." However once the film was out, the actress was a lot more gracious about losing the role."I think, looking at the film now, there's no possible way I ever could have topped that performance [by Anne Hathaway]. It was perfect and I think fateful and meant to be," she said.
Shailene Woodley
The Divergent Series has often been compared to The Hunger Games probably owing largely to the division of the communities into districts ( Hunger Games) and sects ( Divergent Series) which each had their own specialty. However ironically Shailene Woodley who played the role of Beatice Tris Prior in Divergent series actually auditioned for the role of Katnic Everdeen in The Hunger Games. The part ultimately went to Jennifer Lawrence and had an important part in helping her achieve greater stardom.
Jessica Biel
Justin Timberlake's wife Jessica Biel auditioned for the role of Allie opposite Ryan Gosling, and she was devastated when she didn't get it. "That's one that I wanted so badly. I was in the middle of shooting Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and I auditioned with Ryan Gosling in my trailer ” covered in blood. [Director] Nick Cassavetes put me through the wringer in an interesting, excitingly creative way. But there's a million that get away. We're gluttons for punishment. It's just rejection," she said.
Grant Gustin
The Flash in Hunger Games? Apparently Grant Gustin who is known for his role as Sebastian Smythe on the Fox series Glee and as Barry Allen/The Flash on the CW series Arrow and The Flash, auditioned for the leading role of Finnick Odair in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” The role ended up going to Sam Claflin.
Liam Hemsworth
Well, they kept it in the family for this one. Chris Hemsworth who is popularly known for his role as Thor didn't actually make the final cut but ultimately replaced his brother Liam for the iconic part. ''I had an audition with Ken [Branagh, for 'Thor'] that didn't go very well. I remember walking out thinking, 'Oh well, there goes that opportunity.' Then one day Joss and Drew were reading the trades, and on the front was the final four for 'Thor.' 'And they pointed to Liam and said, 'Hey, is that your brother?' And I said, 'Yeah.' And they said, 'Why the hell aren't you in the mix?' And I said, 'I didn't get a callback.' And they were like, 'This is crazy.' And I was like, 'If one of us gets it, that's cool.' And they were like, 'No way. That should be you.'”
