The office of the Salcete Sub-Registrar witnessed an uproar on Thursday “ this time over the printing of the birth certificates.
Inquiries by The Goan has revealed that the problem arose as a major component of the Xerox machine was found non-functioning by the
technicians.
A woman refused to accept a copy of her grandmother as it was dark and not clearly visible, saying that no office or government office will accept the birth certificate.
The woman told the Sub-Registrar officials that they can issue her a new certificate only after the photocopy machine is repaired. “Let the office repair the machine and only then I will take copy of the birth certificate,” she said.
Incidentally, when the office of the Sub-Registrar called a technician to find out the fault in the Xerox machine, he is believed to have pointed out a major fault with the photocopy machine. “It may take a few days time to repair the machine by replacing the part,” sources said.
The photocopy machine is being used by the office of the Sub-Registrar to issue around 180 birth certificates on an average everyday, besides to print copies of the land
records.
