Internationally renowned singer Glenn Perry will attempt a world challenge by performing a unique concert in Goa on August 31 at ESG in Panaji. Glenn who has planned to perform 125 concerts around the world to raise awareness about brain strokes.
The concert, titled ‘Brain Stroke Challenge 125’ is the debut concert happening in Goa, the place he had the brain stroke earlier this month, on August 10. This concert means a lot to Glenn and his family because Glenn suffered a cerebral stroke on the same day he was to do his concert, was paralysed and admitted to a hospital in Goa. Nevertheless, he had to cancel his concert on August 10.
Though Glenn has been advised not to perform the concert August 31as it is too early and the concert may put strain on the brain as well as body. However, with a damaged brain and a paralysed left side, Glenn is persistent and adamant to proceed with the challenge.
He said that he will perform the concert and he is prepared to face the consequences. Performing this concert is an inspiration and motivation to the world that everything is possible if we try. “Nothing is impossible,” Glenn feels. Considering the fact that mind controls the body, Glenn has been using alternative therapies - Brain Power, Mind Control, Brain Stimulation and Brain Rejuvenation “ to heal himself faster.
“My main objective performing this concert is to raise awareness that after a brain stroke it is not the end of the world. Get up and move on with life. There will be obstructions, challenges and difficulties and life will never be the same as it was before but you have to find new solutions and enjoy life. Life is beautiful!”
Admitting that the brain stroke is cruel, Glenn describes that his left side is paralysed, he has dementia, he forgets things easily, frequently feels nauseated, has loss of appetite and his body is going through spasms.
Glenn was in the hotel room when he got the cerebral stroke. “It started with a monstrous headache. I felt like an earthquake in my head with multiple aftershocks,” he describes. Vomiting heavily, he somehow called the reception before falling unconscious and woke up in the hospital where doctors diagnosed his stroke.
Glenn puts it beautifully, “Life is unpredictable. Do not overstress yourself over trivial things. Stress and workload are the major causes and culprits for all diseases. I was wrong when I thought I was strong and invincible but the brain stroke proved me wrong. I always worked hard and achieved my goals. After the stroke, I went through different emotions “ felt guilty, angry, cried, yelled and even complained “ they were after effects. I who never went to any doctor or took medication, had to have 120 injections and 200 tablets, but I cannot accept defeat. Hence this concert. I will be winning as I perform on August 31.”
Glenn says that he is preparing himself for the concert and will perform as long as he can. If he feels dizzy or nauseated, he will stop. With his personal doctor by his side, nurses and paramedics to take care of the situation, Glenn is eagerly waiting for the day.
“I am not afraid,” he declares, adding, “Music is my medicine. Music is my life. I need music to live. Without music, I will perish.” Glenn has been playing guitar in the hospital and finds that the sound of music is healing him. “It is therapeutic. It is tranquilizer. It is food for the soul. Music relieves stress and has been a catalyst in curing several illnesses,” he points out.
Wanting to raise awareness about strokes and to use the situation he is in, to help others, Glenn wishes to save people’s lives.
