This was the first prize and I am thrilled it was in the category of liberation, social Justice, protest, because that is what the film is about,” says Nalini Elvino de Sousa, director and producer of the documentary ‘Special Envoy’ which is based on the life of Aquino de Braganca, a Goan who played a pivotal role in Mozambique’s struggle for independence.

The film is about an unlikely yet indelible friendship forged between two opposite characters - an Indian Intellectual and Journalist-and an African male nurse. This friendship would change the course of History and forge the guiding path for their followers. In 1986 death claims them both in a tragic accident “ a case yet to be solved.

For Gasper D’souza, this film was an exciting project as the editor. “The sheer amount of archives and file formats made it challenging. Then there was the creative fun of working with Nalini to tell the story of a historical figure about whom not many knew,” he deliberates.
