DULER
Holy Cross Sports Club came back from a goal down to hold Cunchelim Sports Club to a 1-1 draw and share the points in a GFA 2nd Division League match played at Duler stadium, here on Friday.
Arambol colts had better of the exchanges in the first session but failed to find the back of the nets. In the 12th minute, Abrahaim’s Fernandes made a fine solo effort and released the ball to Hemant Rodrigues but the latter failed to beat the rival keeper in a one-to-one situation. Five minutes later, another chance went in vain for Arambol when Rohit collected a pass from Godwin but his placement went wide.
In the 21st minute, the Cunchelim lads came up with a fine combined move initiated by Nayan, who found Rohit just outside the penalty box. Rohit relayed the ball to Ganesh Poojar but he failed to tap the ball into the empty goal. Arambol should have taken the lead in the 38th minute when Aryan Shaikh miss-clearance was intercepted by Hemant, but with only the keeper to beat, he failed to find the nets.
Just four minutes into the second session and Cunchelim colts took the lead, where a neat through pass by Rohan Kamble was controlled by Mahableshwar, who scored with a neat placement, 1-0. In the 52nd minute, a glorious chance went begging for Arambol when a 30-yard shot by Godwin was parried for a corner by Cunchelim keeper Sandeep Pawar.
However, the keeper could do very little to stop a 35-yard free kick by Godwin Fernandes from entering the goal, 1-1. In the 69th and 77th minutes, two more chances for Cunchelim were squandered by Mahableshwar from close. Arambol almost won the match in the added-on time when a strike by Stepilloin Fernandes kissed the far post but no-one was at hand to bundle home the rebound.
In another match at Poriat ground, Pilerne SC secured a 2-1 win over Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club. Anson D’Souza scored both the goals for the winners in the eighth and 68th minutes, while Dyaneshwar Pednekar pulled a goal back for Vagator in the 78th minute.
