Over the past week and more, the issue of pellet guns being used in Kashmir has slowly become a serious issue online. After Burhan Wani was killed, the army began to use the pellet gun against agitators. Photographs and stories about their horrifying encounters with these pellet guns have made their way online.
This cannot be swept under the carpet anymore. For years now, there has been this debate on whether it’s the Indian Army or militants who are the greater threat in Kashmir. We aren’t taking any sides here. Goa is so far removed from Kashmir that it wouldn’t be fair to pass judgment or comment on this. However, we can report on an interesting development over the past few days on social media.
Now, a website Called 'Never Forget Pakistan' has uploaded photoshopped images of celebrities on Facebook, showing what they would look like if they had been injured by the pellet guns. Some of the celebrities are Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Mark Zuckerberg, Virat Kohli, Hrithik Roshan, Kajol, Saif Ali Khan, Alia Bhatt, Aishwarya Rai, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
One of the posts reads, “What would Mark Zuckerberg and Shah Rukh Khan look like if they were shot in the face by pellet guns in Kashmir?
Correction: Pellet guns are being used in Kashmir by the Central Reserve Police Force, and not the Indian army. A spokesperson for the Indian army has said they back the use of pellet guns as the “least lethal” option.”
Media reports claim more than 100 people have been injured, many of them blinded, because of the use of pellet guns. Pellet guns were first introduced to Jammu and Kashmir police in 2010 during Omar Abdullah government.
