Just when you thought Wayne Rooney needs to move on, he snaps you out of your reveries with a stunning goal. Rooney came on in the 67th minute and tried hard to win Manchester United a goal, after the club went a goal behind to Stoke earlier on the game. Rooney’s big chance came deep into stoppage time and he took it, curling a delightful free kick into the top corner. But this isn’t just about the wonderful goal. That goal was Wayne Rooney’s 250th. He has now surpassed Bobby Charlton as the red part of Manchester’s highest goal getter ever.
Manchester United’s number 10 is no ordinary player. Sure, controversy exists. He has been called foul tempered, although he has managed to keep in under control over the past few years. He has been accused of trying too hard to earn points, in an underhanded way, by diving. No player is beyond criticism or doesn’t come with his own share of controversy. Rooney is no different. But what Manchester United did get, when they bought him from Everton as an 18 year old in 2004, was a player who leaves it all on the football field.
Wayne Rooney is Manchester United’s newest legend. He was always going to become on, but no one could have scripted it better. With Bobby Charlton watching from the stands, Wayne Rooney just cemented his place in United’s hall of fame. He’ll stay there forever!

I think he is an absolute legend and a wonderful team player. In spite of being played out of position so many times by different managers he has not once complained and has always given 100 percent when he plays. Bottom line, he is a great team player, a fighter and now an absolute legend, and yet he doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Thrilled to see Rooney become the highest goal scorer for Manchester United. And what a fantasy free kick to bring up the 250th goal. It's been 12 years in the making for Rooney and after all the ups and downs he has done it and he deserves it. This record will stay on for a long, long time.
