Pathiks, travellers on the path of exploration, expression and enlightenment, an Artists’ Collective, based in Goa and a unique group headed by artist, educator and curator Vaishali Lall had a one-day painting exhibition The Third Eye - An artist’s perspective at Kala Academy on May 1 from 10 am to 10 pm.
Formed in May 2018 and consisting of emerging and established artists from varied professional backgrounds, Pathiks explores many areas of art. The group celebrated their first anniversary with this one-day painting exhibition curated by Vaishali Lall. The artists who participated in The Third Eye are from diverse fields Darpan, Gauri Keni, Pratiksha Sutar, Dr Rashmi Naik and Saumitra Bakhale.
Darpan is a healer and a self-taught artist whose journey into art runs parallel with her journey into spiritual healing. The influence of which could be seen in the art she exhibited at the gallery. These images or the visuals have come to her during meditation and Reiki. “I believe that the art carries its own energy and goes wherever it is meant to. Art is healing, it is meditation, it is deep love and profound joy,” Darpan defines.
Gauri Keni is an electrical engineer graduate, with a Master’s degree in Power and Energy. “Painting has always been a hobby for me since childhood,” admits Gauri who was for the first time introduced to audience in Art De Goa exhibition at Kala Academy in 2017. She depicted her minimalist works with simplified imagery and uncluttered compositions.
Pratiksha Sutar is an art aficionado in white coat. A doctor by profession and an art enthusiast, Pratiksha uses art as a conduit to let the emotions reverberate into myriad of colours. An abstract minded who works within the box to break open the box, she likes to work with glyphs and surreal art. “Art is a language to express your inner self,” she believes.
Dr Rashmi Naik, is a dentist, with a deep liking towards art. “I started painting at the age of eight and never looked back. Appreciation, rewards, love of friends and family were the motivational pills, eventually playing with colours made it as an hobby. l love my profession because it allows me to follow my passion for art,” she shares, adding her own mantra in life, “Painting is a Painkiller’, try it.”
Saumitra Bakhale, a freelance artist and a painter is an engineer by profession. He works with oil paints, acrylic and water colours on canvas and paper. He also does wall murals. Saumitra also does a lot of digital finger painting regularly. His interest lies in exploring new self-developed techniques. “I believe that painting is a form of deep meditation and self-awareness. I plan to explore other mediums of sketching and painting in the near future,” he discloses.
