When the sea plays doctor

When the sea plays doctor
Captured by : pick 2

So deep is the relationship of Goans to the seas which wash over the state’s shores, that for generations now, senior citizens of this state have been swarming to the beaches, for a ritualistic swim, which they believe takes care of their arthritic pains and pulls which come along with old age.

The summery months of April and May sees thousands of elderly native citizens of the state head for the beaches, where they camp for about three days, many of them with grand -children and other kin for company.

A typical outing at the beach for these visitors would involve spending a period of three days and nights at a designated beach area along with their mattresses, portable stoves, pots and pans for cooking, etc.

From morning to evening, the senior citizens head for the waves in the groups, where they sit at the shallow end of the water letting the sea water work its magic on the creaking bones and sagging skin. Typically, a break from the sea bath may happen on two occasions, one for lunch and another for a cup of tea, before eventually winding up for the day, but not after firing up the gas stove for a quick meal of rice water and pickle or a basic meal.
