The Sanguem deputy collector has said the State government will resolve key issues affecting Selaulim evacuees within two months. The action has been initiated following a memorandum by Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar to WRD Minister Felipe Neri Rodrigues and Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate highlighting the problems of the Selaulim evacuees despite 40 years of their displacement.Speaking on the issue affecting the Selaulim evacuees, Sanguem Deputy Collector Ajay Gaude, who is working along with Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, said his office has formed a task committee toresolve different problems affecting the Selaulim evacuees within two months. After the Sanguem MLA had submitted a memorandum to the ministers concerned, a meeting last week was chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, who has also been following up the matter. The meeting had been attended by the minister concerned, senior government officials, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar and the Sanguem deputy collector.“The main issues to be resolved in the next two months will include allocation of title documents tobeneficiaries who are allocated alternate plots of land but were not provided with Sanads as of now. Theissue of giving Class I status to the beneficiaries will also be resolved at the earliest,” said Gaude. “As of now, only around 216 beneficiaries have got Class I status to the plots of land allocated to themwhile the remaining 236 still continue to hold the land as Class II occupants,” he said. The deputy collector also assured to look into the issue of allocating land to 72 families who have, tilldate, remained without any benefits otherwise allocated to the Selaulim evacuees despite havingsacrificed their ancestral land for the dam.Gaude said the task committee has already been doing the groundwork on ways to go forward and willbe working on the field very soon.
