VASCOClaiming that booster pumps at tanks were the cause of water problems in Dabolim constituency, Panchayats Minister and Dabolim BJP MLA Mauvin Godinho on Wednesday directed PWD to eitherremove the present booster pumps or to have booster pumps fitted for water supply in Dabolim constituency as well.He also said plans were afoot to have a water treatment plant to handle the water supply issue in Dabolim constituency.Godinho raised the issue when he convened a joint meeting with PWD officials to discuss the acutewater shortage faced by residents of New Vaddem area and other parts of Dabolim constituency.Godinho convened the meeting following a programme by the Goa BJP unit to distribute saplings topanch members of Chicalim and Bogmalo and booth committee members.Speaking to reporters, Godinho said booster pumps at water tanks were the cause of water shortage in Dabolim constituency."The area of New Vaddem has been facing acute water shortage and I have had a meeting with all PWD officials to explain to them the possible reasons for this situation.”“We have worked out some possible solutions and I have directed them to take immediate remedial action. The water tank at New Vaddem is ready but the PWD does not have a pump and I haveinstructed them to immediately install the pump through JAICA. I feel that before the end of the nextweek the pump will be fitted and people will get relief.”“Similarly, we have laid down new pipelines which need to be interconnected but it was pendingbecause we are yet to get a NOC from the Railways, which we'll get before next week and we needanother NOC from Chicalim Comunidade, that will happen 3 days. We will get good water supply oncethe new JAICA pipeline is commissioned," said Godinho.The minister said he had also investigated why residents of New Vaddem were facing constant watersupply issues.“I realised that boosters have been fitted on Mormugao side, because of which water is being suckedfrom 3 am to 8 am to the other side of Mormugao taluka, which is an injustice to the people of Dabolimconstituency.”“This is the main reason why people don't get water supply. I have now instructed the PWD to install abooster for Dabolim constituency as well because there will be an equal supply of water to allconstituencies,” said Godinho.
