Cabinet buzz grows as CM, Kamat share stage at Margao event

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JUNE 29, 2025, 12:48 AM IST

Is there any good news for Margao in the coming days, was a question posed to Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant during his recent visit to the city. Standing alongside Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggu, the Chief Minister listened attentively, but responded with his inimitable smile. He neither confirmed nor denied the possibility of Diggu’s induction in the Cabinet. The CM departed with a smile with Diggu in tow, leaving scribes to interpret the CM’s silence and his body language. Wait and watch.

Aldona MLA’s warm ties with GF raise eyebrows in Congress camp

It was a week when a delegation of Goa Forward leaders descended at Aldona to extend birthday wishes to MLA Carlosbab Alvares. Led by party vice-president Durgadasbab Kamat, the GF team wished Carlosbab good health and prosperity. Take note, Carlosbab was the only Congress MLA spotted at the birthday celebration of Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai, making his presence at the fag-end of the celebrations. Even as relationship between the Congress legislature wing and Vijaibab has come under strain in recent times, sources say Carlosbab shares a perfect relationship with the Goa Forward party. Any questions.

Venzy offers help in Betalbatim, downplays political motive

The weekend saw Aam Aadmi Party Benaulim MLA Venzybab Viegas making his presence felt at Betalbatim, a village within the Nuvem constituency represented by Cong-turned-BJP MLA and Environment Minister Aleixobab Sequeira. Taking up cudgels for the beleaguered farmers whose fields were inundated with seawater, Venzybab clarified that he has not come to Betalbatim to indulge in a game of one-upmanship, more so when the local MLA is currently unwell. Having struck a chord with the farmers by getting the creek opened, Venzybab minced no words when he urged the people of Nuvem to feel free to contact him to address issues plaguing them. Any takers?

Rift in Margao Cong surfaces over Chirag’s public role

Differences in the Margao Congress camp seemed to have come out in the open post-induction of Chirag Naik in the party-fold. Sources informed that a section of party members questioned the decision to allow Chirag address the gathering at the historic Lohia Maidan, Margao on Goa Revolution Day when a delegation paid tributes to the martyrs. In fact, party men were taken aback when the leadership gave Chirag the platform to address the gathering. Margao Block Congress convenor Saviobab Coutinho, who was part of the group, quietly left the venue. You know why.

Former, sitting councillors on Vijai’s radar for MMC push

A fortnight after Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai unveiled plans to enter Margao to control the Margao Municipal Council in the 2026 civic polls, speculation is rife in the corridors of the Municipal building and outside. The focus is now on the names of sitting and former councillors who have reportedly come under Vijaibab’s radar. Sources said a ruling councillor and two former councillors, who were part of the BJP, have become the talking point. Wait and watch whether Vijaibab will spring any surprise when his taluka level public darbars culminate in the Margao Municipal hall next month.
