Cong-GF alliance on shaky ground?

Cong-GF alliance on shaky ground?

Strange it may seem, but true that Congress leader Diggu addressed the media in the State capital sans alliance partner Vijaibab Sardesai, only leaving tongues wagging in Saxttidom. Observers are trying to figure out whether Sardesai was not invited for the media interaction or the Fatorda MLA gave the briefing a slip on the plea he was playing Holi in his constituency. Sardesai’s absence has come at a time when the Congress has blamed its alliance with Goa Forward for the party’s debacle. Any questions?

All eyes on new CLP leader

Who’s going to be the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader? And, will the Opposition leader hail from North Goa this time round in the emerging equation? Political circles are abuzz with these questions as the principal opposition party is bracing up to elect its new CLP leader. Congress has 11 members in the House, five from South and six from North Goa. Observers are trying to figure out which MLA is aligned with which leader and whether Diggu will have a free run or Michaelbab will lay claim for the coveted post. Many a question indeed remains unanswered.

Poll results: Happy & sad moments for Joaquim

Former Minister Joaquimbab Alemao was both happy and sad over the election results. Joaquimbab was elated when son Yuri made it to the Goa Legislative Assembly from his erstwhile Cuncolim constituency. He, however, was saddened over the defeat of elder brother Churchillbab, who could not retain the Benaulim seat in the husting. In the 2012 Assembly election, all the four members of the Alemao clan - Churchill, Joaquim, Valanka and Yuri - had lost. Any questions?

Reginaldo now under civil society scanner

Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco is under the scanner of activists and the civil society. For, as he braces up to take up any position the BJP offers him in lieu of extending support to the party, questions have been raised in civil society circles how the irrepressible four-time MLA will take up the issues dear to him and Goemkar in general with the BJP government, including the contentious issues of coal and the three linear projects? Wait and watch.

Will Damu get another chance in Fatorda?

As BJP’s Damubab has suffered his third successive defeat at the hands of bitter rival, Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai, many in Fatorda may be tempted to ask whether it’s time for the former two-time MLA to take a call on his political career. Sources, however, say that Damubab apparently believes he has lost the last two elections narrowly, and is still a force to reckon with. Damubab had turned 50 last year. Wait and watch as his name is already doing the rounds in party circles and outside whether the party will field him for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from South Goa.
