Congress silence on Vijai’s repeated jibes raises eyebrows

This may make for interesting reading. Why has the Congress not retaliated so far against Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai over his repeated public statements that the Congress will score a “hat-trick of defections” in the 2027 elections? Many had expected the Congress to react strongly to the repeated jibes from its alliance partner, leaving political observers wondering what has stopped Congress leaders from launching a full-scale attack on the Goa Forward chief. Is it part of a larger political strategy, or is the Congress simply choosing to handle the emerging situation in its own fashion? Questions remain.

‘Goy Vikpa Divchena’: Congress signals land-centric poll push

“Goy Vikpa Divchena” — a message that appeared simple at the mega Congress rally organised at Verna earlier this week. But the message appears loud and clear: the Congress is preparing to make the “land” issue a major poll plank in the upcoming Assembly elections. So what, many may be tempted to ask? The message carries significance, both for the present political class and for those with links to the real estate business who are entering politics. If Congress sources are to be believed, this is only the trailer, with the full picture expected to emerge once the Election Commission blows the poll bugle. Wait and watch.

Avertano’s public outreach sparks poll speculation

Former Navelim MLA and minister Avertanbab Furtado is once again in the cynosure of all eyes. The reason: The former Independent MLA, who emerged as a giant-killer after defeating former minister Churchillbab Alemao in 2012, recently organised a programme at his residence to felicitate personalities in recognition of their services on Independence Day. With the elections now only a few months away, local political observers are trying to figure out whether Avertanbab is gearing up for the upcoming polls — and, if so, under which party banner. Wait and watch.

‘Savio for Velim’ sends a strong signal ahead of polls

Supporters of Velim Congress leader Saviobab D’Silva made a grand entry at Verna for the Congress melava presided over by party national president Mallikarjun Kharge. Dressed in white T-shirts carrying the message “Savio for Velim”, the supporters were prominently visible at the venue, sending a clear indication that the former South Goa district Congress president is very much in the reckoning for the Congress ticket from Velim. One question, however, remains unanswered – where would that leave Congress Quepem MLA Altonebab D’Costa, who has set his sights on Velim in the event that Quepem is reserved for the Scheduled Tribes? Wait and watch.

GFP banner outside Altone’s doorstep stirs political ripples

As Goa Forward Party has set its sights on the five constituencies of the Kushavati district, with party supremo Vijaibab Sardesai kick-starting his full-day tour programme from August 22, banners have come up across the constituencies in the district. Call it a sheer coincidence or otherwise, one banner in Quepem, however, has generated considerable political heat. The one put up just metres away from the residence of Congress MLA Altonebab D’Costa. Without wasting time, Altonebab brought the banner episode to the notice of the party leadership, including Opposition Leader Yuribab Alemao. Wait and watch.
