Margao MLA DIgambar Kamat and his Fatorda counterpart take a glance at some papers at the Mission rabies programme as district Collector, Asvin Chandru looks on.
Alliance partners-turned-political foes, Cong-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Goa Forward Chief Vijaibab Sardesai were the cynosure of all eyes at the Mission Rabies programme during the weekend. The reason was not far too seek. Many a political observer anxiously waited to see whether the duo would exchange pleasantries and talk to each other at the event. Though the duo were found standing close to each other and even held the flag with the District Collector Asvin Chandru to launch the Mission rabies programme, they hardly spoke to each other. Any questions?
Congress leaders seem to be mum
on South district hospital issue
As the South Goa district hospital came under sharp focus during the fortnight now, over a host of deficiencies, including the ICU, questions were raised in local circles how come the Congress did not take up the issue in a bid to corner the ruling BJP. It was Aam Aadmi Party MLA Venzybab Viegas, who took up the issue before Goa Forward Chief Vijaibab Sardesai took it forward when he along with party workers stormed the hospital. Nothing, however, has been heard from the Congress leaders on the South district hospital. What came as a surprise for many a political observer was Goa Forward chief’s announcement that the Congress party is also on the same page with the opposition on the district hospital. Interesting, isn’t it?
Speculations rife over Kavlekar
being shortlisted for LS seat
A host of visitors thronged the Betul residence of Cong-turned-BJP leader and ex Dy Chief Minister Babu Kavlekar as he offered the annual Satyanarayan Pooja during Ganesh Chaturthi festivities. Top BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant, state president, MP Sadanandbab Tanavade and others travelled all the way to Betul to offer prayers and extend wishes to Kavlekar. Unlike in the past, however, the pooja generated a lot of interest, with speculations doing the rounds that the ex-Dy CM has been shortlisted as one of the BJP candidates for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat. Carnival, Shigmo and now Julus too has
returned back to old route from Fatorda
Congress-turned-BJP MLA Diggu was at his usual best as he descended with son Yogiraj in tow at the Julus procession taken out by the Muslim community to mark Prophet Mohammed’s birth anniversary to extend wishes to the community. The Margao MLA reminded that Julus processions are not something new to him since the Jama Masjid is located right in his backyard at Malbhat. And, he did not forget to remind the Muslim community how decks were cleared for the return of the procession back to the old route this year. In fact, since September 14 last year, when Diggu along with the Congress turncoats embraced the BJP, all the three major programmes, Carnival, Shigmo and now Julus have all returned back to the old route from Fatorda. With Pratimabai's exit, will Siddeshbab
play a more active role in Navelim?
Will Pratimabai Coutinho’s exit from the Aam Aadmi party pave the way for party youth leader Siddeshbab Bhagat to brace up to play a more active role in Navelim constituency in the coming days? Well, if sources in AAP are to be believed, party leadership had to do a fine balancing act between the political aspirations of Pratimabai and Siddeshbab Bhagat in Navelim. For, while Pratimabai had led the AAP battle in Navelim in 2022, Siddeshbab stole the limelight in the 2022 bye-polls for the Davorlim ZP seat, a part of Navelim constituency, throwing up a question or two in local circles how the AAP leadership will go about zeroing in on the candidate for Navelim in 2027.
