Former Benaulim AAP leaders join Cong, but top party leaders absent

THE GOAN NETWORK | 19th October, 12:18 am

The absence of GPCC Chief Amitbab Patkar and Opposition Leader Yuribab Alemao at the induction of former Aam Aadmi Party leaders and supporters from Benaulim into the Congress fold has become a major talking point both within and outside party circles. Why the Amit-Yuri duo was conspicuous by their absence at the event remains unclear. A senior Congress leader remarked that both leaders should have been present to extend a red-carpet welcome to the ex-AAP entrants and boost the morale of the party’s rank and file. Any questions?

Senior Cong leader upset over Amit,

Yuri absence at induction event

Among the Congress leaders who welcomed the ex-AAP leaders from Benaulim, one senior member is believed to have expressed deep frustration and disappointment over the absence of Amitbab and Yuribab. Reportedly, the leader even threatened to resign from all party positions in protest.

Although the induction event concluded on Friday evening, a couple of Congress leaders were huddled together till late evening to take stock of the situation. According to sources, one leader bluntly stated that “enough is enough” when it comes to the current state of party affairs. Wait and watch.

All eyes on today's Vijayutsav and

message GFP leader will send

What’s lining up at Goa Forward Chief Vijaibab Sardesai’s much-awaited Shree Krishna Vijayutsav on the Fatorda grounds on the eve of Diwali? Sardesai’s  Vijayutsav popularly known as Narkasur competition has grown from strength to strength since its inception over a decade ago. Over the years, the celebration has also served as a political platform for Vijaibab to send strong messages to Goans—urging them to “burn the Narkasura” and save the state from decay. With the state heading into an election season—beginning with the Zilla Panchayat polls in December—all eyes will be on Fatorda on Sunday night to see whether this year’s Vijayutsav carries a deeper political undertone.

Venzybab has his sights trained

on Benaulim, Colva seats

Aam Aadmi Party’s Benaulim MLA Captain Venzybab Viegas, appears to have his eyes set on both the Benaulim and Colva seats in the upcoming Zilla Panchayat polls. Despite the political storm that struck his stronghold after several AAP leaders and workers jumped ship, the Benaulim MLA has confidently asserted, in his characteristic style, that he remains firmly in control. His agenda seems straightforward — to retain the Benaulim ZP seat while also making a serious bid for the Colva seat. This likely explains his frequent visits to Betalbatim, a village that falls within the Colva ZP constituency.

Viriatbab makes it clear: Ready to

lead from the front against AAP

It was a week when South Goa MP Captain Viriatbab Fernandes fired on all cylinders against Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvindbai Kejriwal. The MP’s offensive sent a loud and clear message to the former Delhi Chief Minister — that the Congress will no longer take things lying down. Sources said his attack was also directed at certain Congress leaders who appear hesitant to take AAP head-on in Goa. By unleashing his political arsenal, political observers say, the former naval captain has made it clear that he is ready to lead from the front in the battle ahead. Any takers?
