KRC's bike rental plans put Kamat in tricky position

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MAY 26, 2024, 01:24 AM IST

Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggu has a task cut out after his return home from Japan – how to contain the storm brewing in his backyard over Konkan Railway’s plan to venture into bike rental business? For, it’s not only that friend-turned-foe, Goa Forward Chief Vijaibab Sardesai is trying to fish in troubled waters on the issue by taking up cudgels for the beleaguered taxi pilots. None other than Diggu knows for sure these taxi pilots have been his strong supporters, having rallied behind him over the years. Diggu too must have helped them to meet their requirements over the years. How he would get the Konkan Railway to scrap the rental business plans remains to be seen. Wait and watch.

Benaulim ZP bypoll: Confident Venzy ready with AAP poll pitch

Benaulim's Aam Admi Party MLA Venzybab Viegas appears confidence personified as he braces up to ensure that AAP retains the Benaulim Zilla Panchayat seat going to the by-election on June 23. He seemed bracing for any eventuality, to retain the seat, with or without the support of the INDIA bloc partners. This is evident by the fact that AAP has already shortlisted probable candidates for the bypoll. Sources say it’s just a matter of time before AAP finalises the party candidate, even as Congress leadership is waiting for its party leaders to return home from vacation before taking a call. Any questions?

Social media buzz around Pele as probable candidate
No sooner the State Election Commission notified the bypoll for the Benaulim Zilla Panchayat seat, the name of Pele, the Benaulim fisherman, did the rounds in social media circles as a probable candidate. Having brushed shoulders with celebrities, including Akshata Murty, wife of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar on the Benaulim beach in the recent past, Pele’s name has suddenly popped up on social media for the job. It isn’t clear whether Pele is keen on throwing his hat in the election ring or will wait for a more opportune time to make a political debut. Wait and watch.

All eyes on Churchill's move on Benaulim ZP by-election
Varca strongman Bab Churchill seemed keeping his cards close to his chest vis-à-vis Benaulim ZP bypoll. Churchillbab has declared that he is not keen on fielding a candidate for the bypoll. At the same time, Churchillbab has his vote bank spread across the Benaulim constituency. None other than Churchillbab knows for sure that his supporters and workers look to him on how to go about the election. Or, is it that the former Benaulim MLA is just waiting to see how the INDIA bloc goes about the coming bypoll. Wait and watch.

'Peacemaker' Phal Dessai's advice has tongues wagging
Guess which Minister rushed to Cuncolim on Sunday when the Desais hit the streets demanding an apology and arrest of Shreya Dhargalkar over her remarks against the community? Well, Social Welfare Minister Subhashbab Phal Dessai, not only made it to the Cuncolim police station but was seen pacifying the crowd to maintain calm. Subhashbab has been in the news during the Lok Sabha election, virtually leading the party campaign in support of Pallavibai Dempo. That he told BJP workers they need not visit the Congress office for official work only left tongues wagging about his political agenda in Cuncolim. Any questions?
