Well, political opponents have been trying to figure out why Girishbab has proceeded on leave and whether the ex-GPCC chief has done so in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections scheduled early next year. Girishbab, who had unsuccessfully contested the North Goa Lok Sabha polls in 2019, has set his eyes on the South Goa seat. Sources say Girishbab has started interacting with people across South Goa ahead of the poll and his decision to go on leave is seen as a calculated move to hit the campaign trail with full gusto. How would the Congress leadership go about in the event the party departs from the time-tested norm of fielding a minority candidate from South Goa seat? Well, if sources are to be believed, certain party leaders are believed to have come with an idea to do a balancing act, to field a candidate from the minority candidate in North Goa. It is even learnt that certain leaders were believed to have approached a prominent party leader from the minority community, with a proposal to contest the LS polls from the North Goa LS constituency.
