Workers upbeat as Kamat tipped for Cabinet induction after Dec 3

BJP workers must be anxiously looking forward for good news when counting of votes in the five States will be taken up for counting on December 3. In Margao too, workers of Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Diggu also look forward for December 3, but for a different reason. Reports have started doing the rounds in the lanes and by-lanes of the commercial capital that the former Chief Minister will finally receive the promised reward after December 3. In fact, workers seemed upbeat their Baba is tipped to get the prized PWD portfolio, besides another portfolio presently held by a political heavyweight. Wait and watch.

Will Cong do away with minority candidate norm for S Goa LS polls?

What was feared all along has come back to haunt the Congress leadership. Congress workers from minority Saxttidom have started posing questions to the party leadership whether the party will not field a minority candidate for the South Goa seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Congress Goa desk in-charge, Manickam Tagore sought to wriggle out of the ticklish question during his visit to the State earlier this week. The question, however, assumes significance with reports doing the rounds in political circles that the Congress may depart from the time tested norm of fielding a candidate from the majority community in North and minority in South Goa. Any questions.

Despite criticism, Reginaldo sure people will rally behind him

Curtorim Independent MLA Reginalbab Lourenco’s statement that people may love him or hate him, but they cannot miss him, makes reading interesting. Local political observers have been trying to figure out what made the Independent MLA, supporting the BJP-led government in the State, make the statement. It’s an open secret that the four-time Curtorim MLA has come under sustained attack from his political opponents and adversaries since the time he extended support to the saffron brigade after the 2022 Assembly polls. Does Reginaldbab’s confidence stem from the fact his opponents haven’t yet zeroed in on an alternative to him in his fiefdom. Wait and watch.

When Kamat failed to defend Damu against Venzy’s tirade

This may make reading interesting. When Benaulim AAP MLA Venzybab Viegas took on Margao civic chief Damubab Shirodkar for the second time in a week over waste dumping in Benaulim, many thought the Margao MLA Diggu would stand by his trusted lieutenant to take on his Benaulim counterpart head on. For, Diggu had gone to the extent of amending the Goa Municipalities Act to change voting procedure for election of civic chief from secret ballot to raising of hands just a year ago. To the surprise of Madgavkars and political observers, there was neither a word from Diggu nor from BJP councillors in defence of the beleaguered Damubab.

No decision yet, but Warren prefers joining secular party

It was a week when Warrenbab Alemao came rushing to the media to deny reports that he had headed to Delhi with Congress Working Committee member Girishbab Chodankar in order to join the Congress. The Varca-based Alemao sibling, who has firmly set his eyes on Benaulim in the 2027 Assembly election, however, said he would take a call on joining a political party only after consulting his workers and supporters. Insisting no decision yet is taken on the question of embracing a political party, Warren said a secular party would be his preferred destination. Cousin brother Yuribab Alemao is already in the Congress holding the post of Leader of Opposition. Any questions.

Will newly-inducted Minister from Saxttidom Aleixobab Sequeira do the honours of unfurling the National Flag at the South district Collectorate on Goa’s Liberation Day on December 19. Ministers from outside Salcete had done the honours of hoisting the Tricolour on State and National Days at Margao in the absence of a Minister from the minority stronghold over the last one year and half. During the outgoing term too, DyCM Babu Kavlekar, hailing from Quepem was bestowed the…
