BJP ministers' fascination for progress achieved by Portugal

Every time, ministers in the BJP-led government visit Portugal, they return home with fascination of the rapid progress and development made by the colonial power. Last time round, when former PWD Minister and MGP leader Sudinbab Dhavalikar visited Portugal, a MoU was inked with Portugal on water management and sanitation. His successor Nileshbab Cabral, who also holds the Environment portfolio, seemed very much impressed with the progress Portugal has made in the renewable energy sector.  Interesting isn’t it, when voices emanating from the ruling dispensation talk of wiping out the 450-year-old Portuguese  legacy in Goa. Any questions?

Politicos preoccupied more with

personal work during Pitru Paksha

Curtains have finally come down on the fortnight long Pitru Paksha period during the weekend, considered inauspicious by the political class in Goa and outside. Sources say not much was heard from local politicos across party lines, throwing up questions whether politicos preferred to tread a cautious path during the inauspicious period. Many a politician, sources said, were preoccupied more with personal work than politics during the period. Wait and watch what lies in store on the political front in the  coming days with Pitru Paksha ending during the weekend.

Will Vijai attend National Games

flagging off or will he skip it?

For quite some time now, Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai has been skipping official functions, even government-organized programs in his home constituency Fatorda. The Nehru stadium at Fatorda is playing host to the National games and none other than the Country’s Prime Minister Narendrabai Modi is descending at the stadium to flag off the games, throwing up question whether Vijaibab will attend the mega sports event or give it a skip. Wait and watch.

AAP shortlists two probable

candidates for South Goa seat

This may make reading interesting. Both Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are part of the INDIA alliance stitched by the opposition to checkmate the saffron brigade in the 2024 polls. In Goa too, one often comes across Congress and AAP MLAs and their leaders making common cause on public issues, throwing up questions whether AAP would leave the South Goa seat for the Congress. Sources, however, say AAP newly-appointed district panel headed by Gersonbab Gomes has shortlisted two probable candidates for the South Goa seat.  Has Gersonbab and his team taken the decision on their own or acted on instructions to shortlist candidates and be ready for any eventuality.  Any takers?

Elvis kicks off campaign for

South Goa Cong  Lok Sabha seat

It was a week when bureaucrat-turned-politician Elvisbab Gomes crisscrossed across South Goa to take up public issues affecting the common man. The Congress leader, who has kicked off his campaign for the Congress ticket for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat, descended at Ponda to take potshots at the ruling dispensation. Accompanied by his close aides, Elvisbab made this presence felt at the wholesale fish market to take up cudgels for the Niz Goemkar fishermen and then descended at the Margao Municipal square with party ST leader to counter Union Minister Ramdas Athawale’s statement on ST reservations.

The ensuing National Games may come in handy for the BJP to kick off its 2024 Lok Sabha campaign when Prime Minister Narendrabai Modi descends in the State later this month. With the National Games taking place barely few months before the ensuing polls, observers say the saffron brigade is expected to go all out to capitalise on Modi’s visit to consolidate the party base ahead of the polls. That Modi will flag off the Games at the Nehru stadium, Fatorda, the heart of the…
