Covid surge: bigwigs wary of polls being deferred?

With Covid deaths rising by the day, political bigwigs have been frantically trying to find out whether there was any possibility of postponement of the April 23 Municipal polls a la Zilla Panchayat polls. As news went round on late Monday that senior State administration officials may take a call to postpone the April 23 polls, politicians were on the job to establish contact with senior State officials on the ensuing polls. They, however, had a question to ask “ why would Chief Minister Pramod Sawant continue to campaign for the BJP if the elections are heading for postponement.

Sawant keeps date with Agalli

Hazard a guess where was Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on late Monday before he headed to the national capital? Well, the Chief Minister descended in the Agalli-Fatorda on late Monday to drum up support for Vibrant Margao’s candidate Milagrina Gomes. The CM was scheduled to spend entire Tuesday in Fatorda for campaigning, but made his presence felt in the constituency on Monday night itself in view of his Delhi schedule. Wait and watch whether Chief Minister keeps a date with Fatorda after his return from Delhi before curtains come down on electioneering on Wednesday evening.

Wary of CM’s visit, Vijai descends in Agalli

Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai headed straight to Agalli ward early Tuesday morning to ensure that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s presence on Monday night did not pose any threat to his candidate in the ward. Wary of the Chief Minister’s presence in Agalli, Vijai descended in the ward on Tuesday, to take stock of the situation and ensure no damage, if any, is caused to his candidate Custodio. Vijai’s anxiety is understandable given that Deputy Chief Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar had hit the campaign for Vibrant Margao candidate in Agalli during the weekend.

Digambar calm about Ward 15 prospects

Opposition leader and Model Margao chief Digambar Kamat stood calm and composed when scribes asked him about the prospects of Ward No. 15 candidate Manoj Masurkar. Ward No. 15 is one ward where Chief Minister had descended in support of Vibrant Margao candidate Uday Desai. While reports saying the presence of six candidates in the fray, including a Muslim, may divide Kamat’s votes in favour of the BJP, Kamat sounded categorical in his reply “whatever others may say, Masurkar will win the polls”. Any questions?

Will GF retain control over MMC?

Is the Goa Forward set to retain control over the Margao Municipal Council after the April 23 election. Well, party chief Vijai Sardesai told Pajifond voters that the Goa Forward will again rule the Margao Municipal Council for the next five years. Voters, however, were left to wonder whether Sardesai was sounding overconfident about Fatorda Forward’s winning prospects or whether it was his last ditch effort to convince Pajifondkars to support his panel by voting for his candidate Raju Naik. Interesting, isn’t it?
