When Benaulim is inundated every monsoon, the effect is felt in adjoining Margao too. Observers, however, question the Margao MLA Digamber Kamat’s silence on the battle waged by Benaulikars, demanding construction of the western bypass on stilts. In fact, a high-level committee constituted by Diggu around two decades ago under the chairmanship of then Margao deputy Collector Sanjitbab Rodrigues had in his report called for a re-think on the bypass passing through the flood plains spread across Margao and Benaulim. Will Diggu use his good offices with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to concede the demand in support of stilts? Wait and watch.
