After a brief lull, the ghost of defections is back in the news again. With the BJP holding a three-day training workshop in the State, Congress party leaders appeared a worried lot. As reports did the rounds that senior BJP national leaders may descend in the State to guide workers during the training workshop, Congress leaders were on the job to figure out whether months of speculations over the defection would finally culminate during the weekend. It’s a sheer coincidence that even BJP leaders, opposed to the entry of certain Congress leaders into the party, were on the same job. Any questions?
Cong MLA offered money to defect?
Who’s this Congress MLA who reportedly claimed that bundles of currency notes were delivered at his residence in lieu of defection? Sources in the know said the Congress MLA has reportedly confessed to his political friends that currency notes were delivered at his residence with the hope that he would leave the party. It’s another thing that the MLA has spurned the offer by returning the currency notes back to the sender. Wait and watch as attempts to woo certain MLAs to defect from the Congress have not stopped.
Vijai to take on Digambar, if he embraces BJP
At a birthday bash thrown by a Margao city father, Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai is believed to have announced that he may not hesitate to cross swords against Diggu if the Margao MLA quits the Congress to embrace the saffron brigade. Vijaibab, who had set his eyes in Margao to launch his political career in the late 90’s, is believed to have remarked that he would get a Bhandari elected from Fatorda if the samaj helps him out in Margao against Diggu. Is Vijaibab really serious in taking on Diggu or was it simply loud talk at the birthday bash. Wait and watch.
CM downplays BJP may take control over MMC
It was a week when Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant sought to downplay a statement made by Margao BJP leaders that the party may form the Margao Municipal Council sooner rather than later. In fact, when scribes posed a question when exactly the BJP would take over power in the Margao Municipality, the CM just brushed aside the question, before walking away. This has only brought to the fore the question whether the local party leaders did not keep the State leadership, including the CM’s office in the loop before making the statement. Interesting, isn’t it?
Kamat attends I-Day events alongside BJP leaders
Celebrations in the run up for Independence Day seemed to have brought Diggu closer to the BJP leaders. With programmes commemorating Independence Day held every other day in Margao, the Margao MLA attended all the functions with Union Minister Shripadbau and local party leaders. There may be no politics over Diggu’s participation at the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence, but this may be the first time since he had quit the BJP around 17 years ago, that Diggu and BJP leaders were spotted together. Any takers?
