Almost everyone believed they gelled well on party matters. Reports even did the rounds that both Opposition leader Diggu and GPCC chief Girishbab Chodankar consult each other on major issues before arriving at any decision. Against this backdrop, Diggu’s ardent workers have a question or two to ask Girishbab “ why he didn’t utter a word when Congress-turned-BJP leader Urfan Mulla launched a tirade against the Margao MLA. That Diggu’s foot soldiers were on a war path, demanding condemnation from the GPCC chief indicates that something seems to have gone wrong somewhere between the party top two leaders. Wait and watch.
Fire crackers episode in Davondem
It was a week when Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai’s sleep was disturbed, literally when fire crackers were burnt on the main road passing by the Davondem bandh. For a moment, Vijaibab, sources said, tried to figure out what was the sound all about. It could not be ascertained whether the deafening sound of the fire crackers travelled as far away as Curtorim. For, Curtorim MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco was believed to have called up Vijaibab at the dead of night to ascertain what was happening on the Davondem road. No prizes for guessing who’s responsible behind the fire cracker episode and why.
Sardinha’s denial in BJP’s growth
South Goa MP Francisbab Sardinha is not ready to accept the view that he had laid the foundation for BJP’s growth in Goa two decades ago. He is frank in admitting that he had dislodged the Congress government to become the Chief Minister. Sardinhbab, however, is not ready to accept the fact that BJP came to power 20 years ago with his decision to break away from the Congress. Ask those who had extended their support to the BJP to make Manoharbhai Parrikar the first BJP Chief Minister in Goa, is Sardinhbab’s reply when questioned who’s responsible for the entry of BJP in Goa if not he. Any takers?
‘Checkmate’ Clafacio
It was a week when Cuncolkars were left to wonder what’s cooking in the local unit of the ruling BJP. The reason is simple. Strong contender for the BJP ticket, Sudesh Bhise has opened his office in Cuncolim, in the presence of Deputy CM Babu Kavlekar and Cuncolim MLA Clafaciobab Dias. That Bhise is working his way for the party ticket is well known. This has only thrown up a question or two “ whether Bhise’s office is BJP’s way of sending a message to Clafaciobab to either toe the government’s line on the linear projects or the party will look for alternatives in Cuncolim in 2022. Any questions?
Reginaldo-Pratima bonhomie
It was a week when Mahila Congress leader Pratimabai Coutinho celebrated a quiet birthday at her Navelim residence. The irrepressible Mahila leader received phone calls from all and sundry, including party leaders, extending their birthday wishes. Three-time party MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco is believed to be the lone party MLA and senior Congress leader, who took time off to visit Navelim to wish her with a bouquet of flowers. That both Reginaldbab and Pratimabai share a perfect rapport is an open secret. Recently, the duo was spotted at a soccer final in Chinchinim, indeed raising many an eyebrow in Saxtti political circles.
