Local Congressmen are anxiously awaiting the arrival of P Chidambaram and Dinesh Gundu Rao to Goa to address the leadership and other issues plaguing the State. Even as a photo of Chidambaram with Dinesh and other observers for Goa did the rounds on the social media earlier this week, questions were raised in party circles whether the observers had a meeting before descending in the State. State and district leaders are awaiting for directions from the party bosses how to go about their assigned job in the light of new entrants as well as others drawing up their plans in the party building work. Wait and watch.
Past debacles to the fore in Congress
Poor showing by the Goa Congress in the recent elections had thrown up a debate within the party and outside “ whether a weak leadership, unable to steer the party to victory, was the cause behind the defeats. The same question has come back to haunt the party again “ whether the party is inducting the very people who took on the Congress in the past because of the failure to groom leaders from within. Well, the debate continues unabated. It’s another matter that new faces are being welcomed into the party by the very same leadership charged for presiding over the party’s decline. Any questions?
When Joseph visited BJP office
When Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant checked into the South district BJP office last week, party leaders termed it as a routine visit. Media persons swarming around the office, however, had spotted Congress leader Josephbab Silva coming out of the district office. Around that time, the scribes thought Josephbab’s visit may be personal in nature. Realisation has now dawned that Josephbab was at the BJP office with an agenda. Sources now say the entry of Congress leaders, including Josephbab in the BJP have the blessings of none other than Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant. Any takers?
Digambar cynosure of all eyes
It was a week when Opposition leader Diggu was again the spotlight following reports of the imminent entry of a former Congress CM and present MLA into the BJP. As usual, Diggu denied the news. This time, however, even members of the saffron brigade began to wonder whether the BJP leadership has plans to reopen the doors for Diggu. City-BJP leaders recalled how Diggu was instrumental in dislodging Manoharbai Parrikar in 2005. And, they further recalled State BJP president Sadanandbab Tanavade’s recent statement that Manoharbhai always wanted to see Diggu’s defeat. Puzzling, isn’t it?
Elvis, Mickky on a special mission?
It’s a coincidence that new entrants to the Congress, bureaucrat-turned-politician Elvisbab Gomes and flamboyant Mickkybab Pacheco have embraced the party after calling on Congress leaders in Delhi. Both seemed working on a pattern. If Elvisbab started his innings by visiting the South district office, Mickkybab has also followed suit. Both say they will not claim for the party ticket. Instead, they say their one-point agenda is to strengthen the party across the State, throwing up questions whether they are acting as per a script written by the High Command. Only time will tell.
